About

The Montana Fire Trustees Association (MFTA) is the trusted source for administrative education and support for Rural Fire District and Fire Service Area Trustees across the state.

We connect trustees through a statewide network that strengthens leadership, improves communication, and fosters collaboration and innovation. Membership gives you access to resources that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of your organization.

Our annual conference provides essential training on topics such as legal responsibilities, funding options, board governance, and personnel management—plus opportunities to share ideas and build relationships with fellow trustees.

MFTA also advocates for your interests at the state level. As a member of the Montana Fire Alliance, we ensure Rural Fire Districts and Fire Service Areas have a voice in legislative matters. Our lobbyist monitors bills and represents our concerns, and our bi-annual Legislative Meet & Greet offers direct dialogue with local lawmakers.

Explore our website for helpful resources, links to partner organizations, and updates from across the fire service community. MFTA board members regularly attend regional meetings to stay connected and responsive to trustee needs.
